Primary Classroom Daily Schedule
8:30-8:45 am Students arrive and prepare for the day. After hanging up their backpacks, changing
into slippers, and washing their hands, they may choose their work for the morning
work period.
8:30-10:55. Students independently choose work for the morning work period. They are also
involved in individual or small group lessons. Students develop their own
rhythm in choosing works and completing a work cycle. During the morning work
period, students may serve themselves the days snack, which is provided by
Food preparation is an important part of the Practical Life Curriculum. Food
preparation develops independence as children care for their nutritional need.
10:55-11:00 We play a music box to signal the transition from the morning work period to
circle time.
11:05-11:20 am Morning circle. We sing songs and finger plays and play
games. Lessons on grace and courtesy, discussions of classroom issues, birthday
celebrations, and introductions to new materials may be included in circle.
11:20-11:30 Transition to outdoor time
11:45 am Dismissal for half day students
11:30 am- 12:00 pm Outdoor Time
12:00- 1:00 pm Community Lunch. Teachers set up the tables for lunch. The students set up table
cloths, get their own place mat and plate, and unpack their food unto their plate.
When everyone has unpacked the group says a thankful poem before starting to
eat. Students are independent in cleaning up after lunch.
1:00- 1:30 pm Afternoon circle/rest
1:30-1:55 pm Afternoon work period
1:55-2:00pm Transition to afternoon outdoor time
2:00-2:20 pm. Outdoor time
2:20-2:30 pm. Full day program ends, transition to pick-up or aftercare
2:30-4:30 pm. Aftercare
